Art: Shot Glass mermaid by Artist Noelle Hunt
Remember the carnival remember the freak show, the place your parents wouldn’t let you go, and the place where you were both attracted and repulsed by what might lie inside?

Here is the tiny “Shot Glass mermaid” a miniature freak who has suddenly found herself in peril of becoming someone’s “Martini Mermaid”. Inspired by PT Barnum’s “Fiji Mermaid” my “shot glass mermaid” is both beautiful and frightening, an aspect I try to include in all my work. What a delight what a horror to step into the sideshow and find this in your drink.

An 8 x 10 mixed media piece (acrylic, ink & colored pencil) I struggled with the perspective till I decided I like the incongruity of the jigger line lines. I felt it added to the warpped feeling.

One reviewer wrote, "Ms. Hunt's style can best be described as, nouveau retro." I am inspired by all things kitsch: pin up girls, big-eyed children, pity puppies and tiki bars. These vintage things inspire my work, go through my mental filter and emerge, reshaped in a modern style. It reflects not only my inspiration but also my personality...delightfully unpretentious.
