The Green Man or foliate face has entered our panoply of mythic beings; his origin is shrouded in the legends of many cultures. Probably pre-Christian, the image of this protector of the wild places now appears in churches and cathedrals in Europe and America, as well as in many a quiet back garden. In other forms, the green man icon is found even in India and China--he is as meaningful as he is mysterious.
I was delighted to be able to think in another dimension or form--rectangles and squares are challenging, but this oval was perfect for a close up of the green man that resides in the wild places.
