This is the second of my 2016 self portraits. My first received a tough critique from my Mother in Law. She is 93 yrs old and that entitled her to free license to share her truth whatever, whenever to whomever. When I showed her on my iphone and asked her if she could see it,
my first cold wax self portrait (also in entered into this contest, entitled Beauty Lies beneath) She said "yes" followed by,"Why did you paint it so Ugly?" When I explained that it was me feature by feature she stood by her original statement... So I did decide that I would do a more traditional self portrait. I have decided that the first portrait (Beauty lies beneath) is the likeness of me everyday, and Vindicated is the likeness of me on a really really REALLY good day approx 1 in 365
Vindicated was done with raw pigment rubbed with a brush or stylus into bristol paper, along with color pencil for the hard lines and art bars. This was the first time I tried this technique and discovered the smooth life like finish you can achieve with this combo. Definitely will be my first choice for traditional portraits.
