Two-Headed Shani, son of The Sun and Lord of Time, rides upon his sacred vehicle, the crow. Shani is Saturn, and is brother to Yama, Lord of the Dead. He is identified with Mahakala and with Siva as Destroyer of Death. He has 108 names and is the fearless bringer of fear to those who are attached to worldliness.
He of all the planets is most formidable and fear-inspiring, but to those who honor and make sacrifices to him, many good things will be bestowed. He is the dispeller of afflictions and the liberator from mishaps.
He wears black or dark blue clothing and circles above the world on the back of a black crow. The crow is a bird known to be an expert on the goings-on in the heavens, and so is the bird one must consult to find out the ways of the hereafter.
He is called "The Slow-mover" due to a knee injury gotten from fighting with Yama. He is the "Giver of Dispassion" because he banishes ignorance and attachment. He is "Lord of Those who Move in the Sky" because he is the chief of all the planets.
According to legend, Shani has only been bested by Hanuman, and so if one has gained the disfavor of Shani for any reason, Hanuman is the only refuge.
In this picture, Shani on his crow floats serenely over the world, unheeding of the threatening things around him, because nothing can harm him, and nothing can harm those who honor him.
