"Water Wings" by Virginia Zuelsdorf This is an acrylic painting on canvas titled "Water Wings", copyright Virginia Zuelsdorf, 2005. It measures 54" by 24" and is unframed. This painting was created based upon one of my photographs of a nature preserve near my home. I've been documenting the area with my photographs for the last several years and feel as if it is my own backyard. This is the first of a new series I'm working on and I'm very excited about it. My painting technique uses multiple glazes and washes of transparent color. This gives the painting a quality of depth usually seen in oil paintings. The canvases are unframed, however, the outer edges have been painted black and the inner edges (where the canvases meet) are painted with a "wraparound" of the image. This way, the canvases can be hung with a few inches of space between them if desired. The canvases are about 3/4" thick.
