What is EBSQ Juried Artists?
In September 2001, we introduced the idea of EBSQ Juried Artists (formerly EBSQ Plus), a showcase of high end artwork, bringing the best works available to our collectors, and hopefully bringing a living wage to our artists.
I thought anyone could join EBSQ--why does EBSQ Have a juried group within its membership?
We offer a juried sub-group at the request of our career-minded artists who wanted to focus on professional areas like marketing, showing with galleries, professional development, etc. Unlike many juried arts organizations in the United States and elsewhere, we do not require our artists to jump through hoops providing an MFA, resumes, exhibition history, previous art grants, or sales records. We feel this gives an incomplete picture of an artist, and closes doors on many emerging artists of great promise and talent. Rather, applying artists are juried in SOLELY on the quality of their art and online presentation of their work.
How often do juries take place?
New-member screenings take place twice yearly (April and October). Interested artists must be a paid member of EBSQ in good standing prior to their application.
When is the next screening?
The deadline to submit work for the next screening is October 5-20 2008. Submissions won't be considered again until April 2009.
How do I apply to EBSQ Juried Artists ?
To be considered for membership:
Submit five consistent original works of art in the same or similar medium in jpeg form to the review committee. This is done using your art case.
Work must be completed within the last 2 years.
Each piece MUST include a well-developed statement that is item specific, date of work, size, media and ground.
Work must be presented in a professional manner with portfolio quality jpegs. Please take the best photographs or scans you can, as jpeg quality can affect the jury's final selection.
Work must not have been done under direct supervision
What criteria do the jurors use for making their selections?
Art work will be evaluated with the following criteria:
*technical proficiency- use of materials, craftsmanship, professional presentation
*design- originality and composition
*overall impact- quality and consistency in design *overall online presentation, taking into consideration the quality of the jpegs, proper cropping of the jpegs, and the quality of the artist statement provided with each piece.
Who will be jurying the entries?
The screening process will be done by a rotating panel comprised of 12-15 current EBSQ Juried Artist members. Submissions will be juried blindly (i.e. the jurors do not know whom they are jurying). A successful applicant needs to receive 2/3 majority to be accepted.
Where do I send my entries?
Nowhere. In the past, entries were emailed. Now you can complete the process entirely online via your artcase. Be aware that the jurors will see your work exactly as it appears in your public portfolio, except your personal information will be stripped and they will not have access to the rest of your profile.
Are their separate rules for EBSQ Juried Artist members?
Only if you are listing your work on eBay (or other sales venues) and are using the "EBSQ Juried" keyword in your auction title. In this case, there is a 5 piece maximum and pieces must be listed with a starting price (or reserve) of at least $99.
IMPORTANT: EBSQ Juried Artist members are not required to list all or any art for sale on eBay. The aforementioned 'rules' only apply if and when you choose to use the "EBSQ Juried" keyword in your auction title. You are welcome to list as many 'non-Juried' auctions as you wish.
