EBSQ Juried Artists: Origins of our Juried Member Screenings

In August 2001, we introduced the idea of EBSQ+ --recently renamed "EBSQ Juried Artists"-- a showcase of artwork starting at $100 and up, bringing the best works available to our collectors via a new eBay search tool, and hopefully bringing a living wage to our artists. While eBay is no longer the focus of this group, we feel it's important to showcase our dedicated professional artists who exemplify the best EBSQ has to offer, as recognized by their peers.

We decided to jury this category so we could provide more structure and support for our artists, and a guarantee of dedication and excellence from our artists for our collectors. Unlike many juried arts organizations in the United States and elsewhere, we do not require our artists to jump through hoops providing an MFA, resumes, exhibition history, previous art grants, or sales records. We feel this gives an incomplete picture of an artist, and closes doors on many emerging artists of great promise and talent. Rather, artists will be juried in SOLELY on the quality of their art and a brief statement about their work. The group of peer jurors takes into consideration a 5-piece body of work, and looks at such factors as online presentation, compositional skill, materials used, artist's statement, cohesiveness of the portfolio, and an obvious commitment/dedication to their work as evidenced by exceptional work-appropriate technique, an individual style, and unique artistic vision.

Members juried into EBSQ Juried Artists  have access to additional online exhibition opportunies (for which we bring in outside jurors), as well as a subsection of our online community, devoted to the special concerns of this group.

Screening takes place each spring and fall. Interested artists must be a member of EBSQ in good standing, and using all required logos in their auctions.

The next screening takes place 1-20 April 2007 and is open to all media.
