Southwestern Petroglyphs Ancient Cave Art

Art: Southwestern Petroglyphs Ancient Cave Art by Artist Lar Shackelford

I've always enjoyed spiritual symbols in art and religion. There are so many of them that seem to resonate with the soul. In this case, I've worked with the theme of Native American Southwestern Cave Art. It has a fascinating history, actually cave art itself has been found all over the world. There are some symbols that are strangely consistent in a variety of locations. For example archaeologists feel the symbol of the hand may represent a 'welcome' sign.

My favorite cave art or Petroglyph is that from the Native American cultures. Though some of this is a bit on the South American, Pre-Columbian, Mayan, Anasazi or Fremont appearance, too. If you look closer there are hints of the feeling of an actual cave in this second of my new rock art painting series. I hope you enjoy this eight panel painting as much as I did painting it. It's millenium old art but can also be considered abstract modern as if the original concept or feeling of the art has recycled. This is so often the case for art, styles tend to recycle if we study them closely, historically.
