Art: Woman with Eggs and Bones by Artist Virginia Ann Zuelsdorf
This is a self-portrait. I believe that this painting shows the duality of life and death. One cannot exist without the other. . Symbolism is abundant in the traditions of Day of the Dead. Offerings are left at graves, which are offerings to those who have died.

This may not be a traditional depiction of the holiday, but it depicts my feelings about life and death.

The bones and eggs symbolize death and life. The sleeping woman could be seen as dead or alive; you choose. Either way, there is a spirit of celebration of both life and death in the painting..Our ancestors may be dust and bones there will always be new life!

The piece is painted on unstretched canvas. I used very large brushes to keep the painting loose. There's lots of texture, due to the wrinkles in the canvas.
