This happened because you tried to delete an item for which you previously generated a COA. Our site requires at the very least, a remnant of the item to remain for the COA to work, which is why you can't completely delete the item.
We suggest that you re-add the jpeg (if you still have a copy) and simply turn "off" the items you don't wish to see live in your portfolio. You can also give them higher numbers (5000, for example) to move them to the back of your ArtCase so that you're not always dealing with older work.
We apologize for the inconvenience! We're currently working on a redesign of the ArtCase that will better address some of these issues, although there's no ETA on a completion, and we don't expect it any time soon.
