I'm sure someone will have more info... but here's my .02...

Unless I'm mistaken, the first pic you submit in your portfolio (the one right after the description of the piece) is the image that is the largest, and which will have the best resolution. So, in the past, if there is a detail that I have really wanted people to see, I've posted it as the first pic, and then posted the whole picture in the second slot.

If your goal is to show the detail very well and it's for the Macro show, would it solve your problem to submit this pic as the first pic?

how large is the original file? because your detail image is being automaticallly resized to 400 x 400. (main images are automatically resized to no more than 800 x 800)

i am not sure if there's a sharpening tool being auto-run on detail images, so i will double check on that.

In Photoshop I always make a psd version (jpeg/compressed images do very poorly upon opening and closing, much less resizing or manipulationg them) and if your camera hadles RAW format, always select that. With the psd version you can zoom in and crop your image to the ebsq dimensions and get a very crisp macro of your macro image ;) Convert to jpeg for web and your set.

I'm going to print this out and translate it after work... this sounds like great advice! :)
