Can't enter show - 3/8/2011 1:21:50 PM
Guest
I'm trying to add a piece into an art show. After I click the "Edit" button on one of my thumbnails, I get the "Edit Art Item" window, but there is no tab available for selecting "Other Tools" as per the forum post "A step-by-step guide from upload to portfolio" dated 11/01/10. Nor are there tabs for any of the other listed options in that guide.
I can edit the title, the statement, etc, but I can't do anything else. There's no "Gallery Placement" or any other tabs. It just says "Details"

Ed,

What browser/OS are you using? When you're in edit mode, you should see Details, Gallery Placement, Get Links/Thumbs, Create COA, and Other Tools in the blue bar in the top of that little editing window.

Amie, I'm using MS XP on an HP computer. Browser is IE 8.0. I tried it with Firefox, and I can see the tabs there, but when I click on Enter Show, nothing happens. I'm going to try rebooting.

Rebooting didn't help; the same condition exists for each browser as reported in earlier post. Some tabs are working; for example in 'Detail Images' it appears that I could upload a new image if I choose. But in 'Other Tools', neither highlighted option works in Firefox. After rebooting, Firefox updated, so it is the latest version.

I'm trying to enter Rhino Ruminations into the rhino show.

Thanks for the reminder Amie. It reports "You have version 10,1,102,64 installed"

I just tried again without success.

Ed, so to be clear on your issue, you're doing the following:

Logging in
Clicking "My Profile"
Clicking "My Art"
Clicking "Edit" for the piece you want to enter
NOT seeing the links for Gallery Placement, Detail Images, Get links/thumbs, Create COA, or Other Tools.

Is this correct?
Could you send us a screenshot?

Also, Bill suggests trying the following so we can find your specific error:

quote:

In chrome (and firefox I believe) - if you get an error (or if the page seems to fail - like it is for upload), right-click somewhere on the page (part of the background would be good), you should see an option 'Inspect Element' - click that. Note that this has to be done on the 'problem page' and not the the page it takes you to.

This should cause the bottom of the browser (for the current tab) to give more information about the page.

There should be options at the top of this new area 'Elements/Resources/Network/Scripts/Timeline/Profiles/Audits/Console' (or similar)

If you click the last one - 'Console' the area below should change and display errors/warnings that the page encountered. If you can copy/paste that to us here in the forums, it might help. (to copy it, you'd have to select it and copy it - there is no 'select all' option. I guess it is possible the area could be empty...

To close the bottom window, there should be an X type icon in the top/right of the bottom window.

So, in short: if you're feeling technically brave, please give this a try and cut and paste any error information given in a new response to this post.

Amie,

That's exactly what I'm doing to try to enter the art into the show. I've sent you screen shots via email at info@ebsq.com

In the Firefox shot, which loads correctly and I don't get any error, I still can't get any response "Enter art into exhibit".

I don't have Chrome.

Ed

Hi Ed,

Sorry about the problem... which I did finally track down...

The problem was the HTML code for the description of your items - the following is (was) missing the ending /font tag:
<b><u><font color=black>How to Paint</font></u></b>

I think I got that fixed in all your art.

Of course, this might look like I'm saying 'you broke it' - but the problem is, we have to handle that. I'm looking into how to keep this from happening again. Also - the way you are using the description field (to append the same text to all your items) leads me to think we should make this a feature (i.e. you could manage multiple 'blocks of text' and choose to append certain ones to all or individual art items)... I'll make a note of it for the future.

Oh - I didn't really test the 'enter show' aspect (you said you couldn't do that with firefox) - i'll try and do that in a bit... but if you try first, please let me know if it still doesn't work.

Thanks,

bill gillingham
