platypus -> How and why did the title of my painting get changed? (6/14/2010 7:52:59 PM)

I had a google alert come up for my name (I have no idea why it picks what it picks) but I saw that it said "Pickletop" by Vicky Knowles - so I followed the link & got this:

http://www.ebsqart.com/OnlineArtGallery.asp?CMD=DOSEARCH&ID=7&FILTER=&AFILTER=&Gallery=&GALLERYTYPE=MEMBERSHOWS&PAGE=5&ITEM=1&VIEWMODE=G&IID=529646

I'm actually pretty pissed about this, I put a lot of thought into the titles of my work & don't appreciate it being changed without my knowledge, and I most certainly would not have picked "pickletop" for a title. I thought show entries couldn't be changed after the fact anyway.

How can this be fixed? I'm extremely dismayed that I wasn't even contacted.

I am not sure why this happened. I'm know that it wasn't deliberate. Let me see what can be done. Can you tell me what the name is supposed to be?

Thanks Melissa, it's supposed to be PicklePuss. I just tried changing it back through my art case & it looks like it worked although I don't know what's showing up for the show entry (since those are different).

If you don't know how it got changed that concerns me too!

You changed it there, too. I am sure it is something like when there was a formatting change, the site took it upon itself to make a few changes of it's own. Amie will be about shortly. As soon as Liam is down, she will slip into Live. I will make sure she sees this if she hasn't by then.

It's not a big deal since I could change it easily - I thought the titles & write ups weren't editable after a show ends (like the images). It's good to know they can be edited though.

I'm just curious about how & why it happened, the new name seems too logical for it to have been a computer glitch. I'm also curious about how long it's been like that!

I'm looking at the piece now and it says PicklePuss. I'm not sure how or why your piece title was edited without your knowledge. I can't think of *any* reason why anyone official would change it without contacting you. If it was just now overwritten, I can't look at its last edit date for any clues. We don't log every change, just the most recent one. Even then, all I'd be able to tell you was the date it was last edited.

As to your other question, show entries can be edited once a show closes. They just can't be removed from a show post-closing. Also the one in your artcase is the same as the one in the show. Items have to be in your artcase to be in the show. You can't enter a show otherwise.

I'm truly sorry for your upset.

It's not a glitch that I can tell, nor part of any security changes that I know of. There are other occurences of "Puss" on the site. The only thing I can tell date-wise is that it's been like that at least since May 3, 2010, which is the last time that specific page was crawled.

It's ok Amie, I was able to fix it. At first I was annoyed but now it's just weird! Maybe PicklePuss wanted to change her name because she was tired of the constant jokes?

I even started second-guessing myself thinking that maybe I actually had named it that and am really going insane or something, but I almost always keep the titles of paintings the same for all occurrences - both for the jpeg & on my website too & it's PicklePuss everywhere.

Oh well sorry to bother you about it!!

You have every right to be annoyed, and I'm glad you said something.

Wracking my brain, I am wondering if this was a last-minute entry you needed help with, you gave me the details, and I (or Bill) got the title wrong. That's the only logical reason I can come up with. There doesn't seem to be a security breech of any kind, and I agree, it's too specific a name to just be something random. I checked my mail logs and didn't find anything from you pertaining to this particular show, but then again, I'm missing 1/3 of my archived mail from when my mail files got corrupted pre-hardrive failure back in April. Do you have a way to check to see if we perhaps discussed this?

platypus -> RE: How and why did the title of my painting get changed? (6/14/2010 10:00:05 PM)

I'll check Amie, It more than likely was a last minute entry (as most of mine tend to be!), and at the last minute is also when things tend to go wrong. I have most (but not all) of my pm's archived on my other computer & will check email too. It's possible that it was something like what you suggested, but since it was two years ago it's hard to remember for certain but that explanation does make sense.

It seems that whenever I go looking for a specific correspondence I can't ever seem to find it, but I'll look.

The tool I had that used to help tremendously in finding old correspondence is Google Desktop. It made working life SO much easier for years. Given that I'm now reading mail directly on the server, that's no longer an option, but I cannot say enough good things about how much easier it was to search files/emails/browsing history before my old computer died!

What's Google Desktop?  Is it available for macs?  It sounds like something I could use!

gillie -> RE: How and why did the title of my painting get changed? (6/15/2010 8:16:11 AM)

This is all they seemed to have for the Mac:

http://www.google.com/mac/

Although when I searched specifically for "google desktop mac" I found this as well:

http://desktop.google.com/mac/features.html

Thanks Amie, I'll check it out when I get home!
