1. I am really sorry to bother anyone (likely Amie and Bill) with this, and it is not a big deal, as I can get around it.  However, I figure if it happens to me, then I can't be the only one.

First, I have high speed, and an excellent PC with great graphics, etc.  Yes, I have all sorts of spyware/adware and virus filters, but I can see everything all the time, except show stuff.

On the home page, I NEVER see the current shows, only the top words, see the current shows or whatever.  Occasionally, if I hover, I can click, but almost never.

On the last (just prior) shows, where you can either vote or see results, I sometimes see the words, but again, never banners.

I get around all of this by clicking on Shows in the top toolbar.  It just concerns me that patrons or artists who don't come on the site very often might find this frustrating.

2.  Is there an easy way to get back to today's current posts quicker than the back key that I am missing?  Going thru forums, current topics or whatever doesn't always bring up the right list, if that makes sense.

3.  What are the sorts used for galleries?  I have often wondered about this.  In shows, I can see the age of the membership clearly has something to do with it, as well, as possibly Juried status (but I am not sure about that).  However, in general, that doesn't always seem consistent.  For example, I was pleased to see botanicals as the featured gallery this month.  However, a search through many pages left me wondering what the sorts are (and I am sure there are more than one level).  Can you share that info, please?

regarding the banner issue:

what browser (and browser version) are you using? what operating system is your computer running? have you tried a different browser to see if the banners show up for you in one but not in your default?

regarding the gallery issue: items are shown with the most recently added to the site (not the gallery itself, but our actually image database) first, with the oldest items being at the end. So if, for example, you added a piece of artwork to your artcase back in 2002 but just added it to the botanical gallery, it would show up toward the end, not the beginning.

regarding the recent post thing, i just click on see posts since last visit or today's posts down at the bottom.

Sorry Amie, I meant to post that, and forgot.  My bad. I recently upgraded to IE 7.9.5730.11.  It has been happening for a long, long time though, prior to this version of IE.

I run Windows XP Pro 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 for an OS.  Again, happened with a prior service pack, too, I think.

I run lavasoft and McAfee, too.  I have used other browsers in the past, but I am not super psyched about using another right now.  I finally have a nice stable system with no problems, and don't want to mess with it.  This is the only issue I have, and it isn't a big deal, but I assume I am not the only person it is happening to.

On the posts issues, I meant within a thread, not the Forum Home page.  Hope I am making sense.

I am not asking you to give up IE; I just wanted to know if you tested our site in another browser just to see if you were still having the same problem. We need to isolate why this is happening to you. I'm running darn near the same browser and OS and I'm not having the problem.

And you lost me on what you are asking about the forums.

Yes, I can.  Sorry, not trying to be a pain.  You can just let it go if you want.

No, you're not being a pain, but we also can't solve this problem without your help, particularly since this isn't something we're getting reports of from other people. If you want to let it drop, I'll certainly understand!

Would you consider trying another browser briefly, like opera or flock, to see if you still have the problem with the other browsers? We're trying to figure out if it's a browser setting that needs to be addressed, or whether it might be something else on your computer causing the problem, and this is really the only way to be able to do it.

are you seeing a placeholder? a red x broken jpeg? what are you seeing when you look at banners on the various places they appear on the site?

From Bill:

Have her go to our front page in explorer.... In the 'File' menu, have her click 'Save As...' - have her choose to save it as type 'Web Archive, single file' AND have her do this again selecting 'Webpage, HTML only' - and send us the two files

Okay, I sent the two files to info account.  No x's, by the way.  If you can't get enough info from that, I will try another browser.  Thanks.

Also, when you right click an image to see the properties for that image, do you have the option to block an image? if so, what is the verbiage? And do you have something called "AvantBrowser"?

after looking at the differences between our actual site code and what you're seeing, i got the following response from bill:

so - probably spyware or something like that - nothing we are doing - the HTML we are sending them is obviously being intercepted by her pc and changed

actually - there are a lot of weird things about the html she sent... really - no idea except that something is grabbing the html and morphing it

has this always been a problem? if not, maybe if you can pinpoint when it started you might be able to find the culprit on your machine. and i still suggest trying another browser to see if the problem is limited to IE

Amie & Bill, just a quick update.  It appears it is not a browser issue (happens with Opera, too) but rather an issue with having McAfee Phising turned on.  It does not like all the links within the links, I guess.  Anyway, we are doing some more testing.  Will keep you posted.

definitely keep us posted! and glad you checked it out to see for certain that it wasn't browser specific, particularly since different browsers handle code in different ways.
