Hi: I was looking for a painting of the sun, so I went to the galleries and typed sun in the "search art" box. I've never tried the gallery search before, but tried this last week several times and this week several times, and when I hit the search key... it times out and never does complete the search. It would seem like the gallery search would be a good way for patrons to find paintings that they wanted. But I can't seem to get it to work. I tried it by selecting "all" art and then I narrowed it to "oil paintings" and "watercolor paintings" but still can't seem to get it to search. (I even tried dog for a painting of a dog, but it still timed out - and I know there are dog paintings on EBSQ, I've seen them). Maybe the gallery search has just been down lately?

Thanks,
Annie

It is working for me... although it did return a blank page once and a "document contains no data" error. But I backed up and tried the very same search term again and then it worked. I tried other search terms, too, and it worked with them as well.

Things have been a little slow around here lately. Maybe it is also affecting the search.

Actually Annie, I have been meaning to start this same thread. I have had many examples of timing out, for a very long time - way before the issues with adding disk space or whatever.  It is difficult to do searches, much of the time.

We're aware of the problem, particularly during peak hours. That's why we're still doing server maintenance. The next step is migrating the database to a seperate server to speed things up. That should be happening within the next week or so as soon as the new machine is ready.

Thanks Aime, Linda & Donna. I'll just sit tight then. Tried again today with the word cat & it still timed out, but now I realize that it's being worked on so I'll just be patient.

Yeah, given the number of items that would come up for a search like that (with over 1 million images in our database) I can understand why that particular search failed with our current set-up. We've simply outgrown our current database/server system.
