This is a black-footed ferret which lives in prairie dog towns in western North America and feeds solely on the residents of those rodent cities and often takes up residence in the dispatched owner's burrow. These ferrets are a captive breeding success story and have been released back into their natural habitats as their populations have grown. They are essential to the landscape of the American plains as the buffalo. I've wanted to do a painting of these endangered animals for a long time and it was a chance to do a night time painting as well.
