Along country highways in Northern Illinois, one can still find some of the old stone stage coach stops which provided rest and shelter to those who traveled from Chicago to Galena. I feel that the stones of these old buildings hold the history of the settlement of the Midwest. I used a pallet knife because it gave me a feel for the rugged roads and crude buildings.
