Victoria Sonstegard PhD

Artist's Profile

My dissertation was approved after the defense and I earned a Ph.D. in Art History from Warnborough College in Canterbury, U.K.-my life-long dream. In the ensuing months, I've created a blog that explores female artists which includes painters, sculptors, potters, and quilters of all ethnicities working in the American West, from roughly the early-mid 19th century to the early-mid 20th century. Inspiring stories, all. The link is http://womenoutwest.blogspot.com/-enjoy. I continue to grow as an artist as well. I just finished a twelve-piece series of women smoking cigarettes and what that means in our current society. I am now in the process of painting a series of clouds/skies at different times of the day and in different seasons. Maxfield Parrish is my inspiration with regard to his technique, use of color and light, and beautiful rendering skies and of the figure, but my style is more Isabel Bishop with visible brushstrokes.
