One thing that has always appealed to me about the circus was the undercurrent of evil that runs throughout. Clowns are supposed to be funny, but everyone knows that they're evil and terrifying. In this painting I hoped to capture that feeling - seemingly cute circus performers who on closer inspection have "sharp points". Sure, I'd like to ride on that cute little pony, until I see those vicious little teeth - no thanks! And look at JoJo the poodle, so cute on the scooter! But wait - JoJo's got an evil look in his eye - he may not be saying it, but you know he's thinking "MURDER". All he needs is a knife in his fuzzy little paw. And those cats, well, I don't think I need say more.
