Veronique Perron

Artist's Interview

How long have you been creating?
I have been creating since the time I was old enough to pick up a crayon and draw! I have always loved, loved drawing all kinds of little creatures and animals. (And still today!). I still have these drawings from my childhood, it's precious to me.
What is your medium of choice?
I am a painting machine!! I can make 2-3 paintings a day. I paint every day. My media of choice is acrylic paints on canvases. I like using acrylics because it dries fast. My brand of choice is Liquitex, for their beautiful colors and quality of the paint.
What are your motivations for creating?
Painting/drawing/creating is essential to my well being! I am motivated to the highest point. I beleive in my stuff (being really commercial). I want my creatures on a TV cartoon, on t-shirts, on underwear, on band-Aids...SKY IS THE LIMIT! I want my stuff as popular as the Simpsons (I know....good luck! but, I beleive it will happen.). What's also really motivating is people buying my art. I am really thankful that I get to paint for a living!
What other artists and movements inform your work?
It would be the "Lowbrow" art movement. Wikipedia:"Lowbrow, or lowbrow art, describes an underground visual art movement that arose in the Los Angeles, California, area in the late 1970s. Lowbrow is a widespread populist art movement with origins in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod, street culture, and other California subcultures. It is also often known by the name pop surrealism.". Most lowbrow artworks are paintings, but there are also toys, and sculptures.". I think I can say that my art is Lowbrow. That's what best describes it!
What do you find stimulating right now? How does this influence your creative process?
Bright colors, pets, monkeys, sunny days, AND teacup chihuahuas!
Read anything good lately?
I don't read. I mean I CAN read, but I don't really like to. LOL!! The only book I read regularly is my book about analysing dreams. I love it!
What are some of your artistic goals for the future?
My monsters all have names and personalities. I have 13 monsters that I paint. The are all from. "SausageLand". They were all born in my drawing book, about 3 years ago. (Look in my portfolio at monster paintings for short stories that go with the painting.). Well, my goal for 2007, (ASAP!!) is to somehow turn them into a cartoon (animated series) for TV. I have stories, colors, creatures...everything is ready. All I need is someone to take me under its wing and collaborate with me to make this happen. If you or someone you know would be interested in something like that, let me know! www.twistedkitties.com.
What would you like your fellow EBSQ artists and collectors to know about you and or your work?
I am a 28 years old full-time artist, from beautiful Montreal, Quebec. I have been painting for over 10 years. I have sold paintings on every continent. (That would be over 1000 paintings sold worldwide.) I started exhibiting in galleries about 5 years ago. I have degrees in fine arts and visual presentation design. I worked for the "Cirque du Soleil" making and painting most of their latex masks (about 15 000 masks.) I am also a freelance artist for tv/cinema in the special effects dept (special fx makeup/prop building, etc..) About me in general/personnality: I am always smiling and pretty much always in a good mood!! I LOVE pets. I have 1 dog named Kaya and 1 kitty named Apple. I do custom pet portraits (custom monster paintings also!!), email me or visit my website! www.twistedkitties.com
