After living in the south for 12 years, my husband and I finally made the trek last summer up to Rock City, at Lookout Mountain on the Tennessee/Georgia border. We had seen the barn signs along the roads in the south, at one time there were over 900 "See Rock City" barns. It had all the typical tourist stuff, tacky key chains, snow globes, etc, but you know what? It's a pretty cool place, walking amongst giant boulders, through the trees on flowered paths, and then out to the ledge on the mountain where you can supposedly see 7 states! I decided to bring a piece of it home with me in this birdhouse we put up in a little corner of our backyard, a little garden bird sanctuary (notice the Flicker in the tree, Alabama's state bird, and other birds sitting about), and I have included our dearly departed cat Little Jack in this piece, as he was named, in our literary tradition of naming cats, for Jack Kerouac, because we found him "On the Road".
