This is a female bodybuilder study I completed for the EBSQ Plus Epic show. I used myself as the subject, with a photo reference from my days as a competitive bodybuilder.
The human body has been the subject of paintings, drawings and sculptures since the beginnings of art, and I used charcoal in this study as that is one of the oldest mediums. I chose to update the feminine ideal, the Venus de Milo, so famously depicted by the unknown sculptor. I love the human body studies done by the great masters, and wanted to marry this version of a feminine ideal with the classic beauty and simplicity of charcoal.
