This is part drawing, part painting, part altered photography and cut & layered papers. Pippi is a photo of a friend's child at Halloween. Some of my fondest memories are as a child dressing up for Halloween and trick or treating. This picture really shows the spirit of that activity. It was photo shopped (multi-filters) and printed out, faded b&w, on 140 lb. water color paper. The image was then colored in with prismacolor pencils and highly burnished. I used the white pencil for most of the blending/burnishing. The back ground scene was done separately and is both cut papers and paints/glazes. I used mostly mulberry for the leaves and shapes on the ground. The cat and crow were cut from black card stock. Details of the paper shapes were enhanced with acrylic paints, glazes, or colored pencils. The night sky is painted and swirled and dotted with glitter glaze. Pippi was cut and mounted on black foam core and then the foam core was cut to shape. This was then adhered to the background scene. All of this was sealed with several coats of glossy varnish. I used a primed masonite panel for the base.
