This is part drawing, part painting, part altered photography and cut & layered papers. This piece was a commissioned work for a minister's wife. The children are her grandchildren and are done up in all their Easter finery, ready for the church services. I photographed each child and then photo shopped (multi-filters) each picture and printed them out, faded b&w, on 140 lb. water color paper. The images were then colored in with prismacolor pencils and highly burnished. I used the white pencil for most of the blending/burnishing. The back ground scene was done separately and is both cut papers and paints/glazes. Torn mulberry paper forms the trees behind the church and a variety of cut papers compose the sky. The church is also a photo-shopped print, hand colored, on card stock and trimmed. The foreground was layered with paper and then painted over with acrylics. The flowers are painted and the leaves are mulberry cutouts that are accented with acrylics. The children were cut out and pasted to chipboard and trimmed again. They were then adhered to the background scene. All of this was sealed with several coats of glossy varnish. A canvas panel was used as the base.
