I call this image "Whale Ice" as the gigantic protruding ice chunks remind me of a pod of whales reaching to the sky.

Once in awhile, when the conditions are just right, we are treated to a Blue Ice event on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth Minnesota.   The main ingredient for Blue Ice is, of course, extreme cold.  The week I took this photo, it was in the minus 20's degrees Fahrenheit for most of it.  Welcome to Winter in northern Minnesota.  Bundle up and enjoy it for all it's worth.
