Towards the East Blackrock

Art: Towards the East Blackrock by Artist Shirley James

Towards the East Black Rock  is on the  road in Black Rock Campground in Joshua Tree National Monument looking towards the East.  This is part of the Joshua Tree Chronicles that was funded by the Puffin Foundation to show Joshua Trees burned on Joshua Tree wood and as fine art.  The wood was processed circa 1940 and no longer is be processed.   The wood is porous and requires that I wear safety equipment to protect from the burned particulates.  Joshua Trees are part of the lily family and develop their unusual shape from a beetle in the tree giving it  the appearance of reaching to the sky and praying.  "Joshua praying"  The Joshua Tree is one of the most interesting and dear to my heart and soul as a subject.
