County Cluster

Art: County Cluster by Artist Shirley James
County Cluster was on a vacant lot  originally owned by the county and then the City of Yucca Valley.  The group has now been moved to another location so that Senior Housing could be built.  Joshua Trees are not permitted to be cut down but must be relocated to continue for future admirers of this wonderful strange tree. This is part of the Joshua Tree Chronicles that was funded by the Puffin Foundation to show Joshua Trees burned on Joshua Tree wood and as fine art.  The wood was processed circa 1940 and no longer is being processed.  The wood is porous and requires that I wear safety equipment to protect from the burned particulates.  Joshua Trees are part of the lily family and develop their unusual shape from a beetle in the tree giving the appearance of reaching to the sky and praying.  "Joshua praying"  The Joshua Tree is one of the most interesting and dear to my heart and soul as a subject.
