I was trained in fashion design and intially self taught as an artist. I worked a variety of positions in human services and always returned to some form of art including assistant art insturctor and interior decorator. Several years ago I began concentrating on developing my skills as an artist and often said that I lacked focus. I began drawing and painting and am now focusing on pyrogravure coloree. Basic I do fine art wood burning and use colored pencil to bring out the detail. I am fascinated with the depth that I can acheive with the burning pen on paper and wood and now Joshua Tree wood. Colored pencil brings out the highlights and the interest and seems to draw the viewer into the painting.
I live in the high desert and am drawn in by the colors and the enigmatic shapes that make up our California desert. There is nothing like the early morning and late afternoon reflections of light that bounce off the stark shapes of Joshua Trees and boulders. The desert is a large part of my life and I want to share its rare beauty with others. I paint the softer side of the desert.
