Florida "Ghost Orchid In The Mist"

Art: Florida Ghost Orchid In The Mist by Artist Sherry Key

Suspended by an apparent umbilical,

A ghost hangs in the Mist.

Considered to be a leafless orchid that is rarely seen in it's natural wild habitat in the moist, swampy forest, of southwestern Florida and Cuba.

Since the roots blend so well with the tree, the orchid appears to be floating in midair, thus the name "Ghost Orchid." The center part looks like the face of a phantom.

Because the spirals that makeup part of the lower petal look like frog legs, it is sometimes called the "Frog Orchid."

Rarely blooms two years in a row and is pollinated by the only moth with a long enough proboscis, called the "Giant Sphinx Moth", also considered to be rare.
