Ramshackle Glory

Art: Ramshackle Glory by Artist Robin Cruz McGee

Legends arise in the most unlikely of places. One of those places is in Western Georgia, in the 70’s where Texas music legend Blaze Foley and Sybil Rosen lived in a tree house near Whitesburg. Their romantic times, as chronicled in the memoir, “Living in the Woods in a Tree” By Sybil Rosen, provided the catalyst for much of Blaze’s subsequent poetry and songwriting, much of which has been and continues to be recorded by many country music greats.

This original drawing was inspired by a photo of Blaze and Sybil at the tree house which has long since faded into wherever it is that all such magical places go. But they never really fade away completely. Sometimes a window opens or a connection is picked up again and another glimpse comes to the surface.

Thank you to my friend Sybil for asking me to do this work. It has been a great pleasure.
