This is part of the legacy of the Alaskan earthquake and tsunami of March 27, 1964 (Good Friday). A forrest of trees killed by the salt water that engulfed Portage, Alaska.  This "ghost forrest" and scattered decaying structures remain as a reminder of that historic occurrence.
