Out, damned spot; out, I say. One, two,—why, then ’tis time to do’t. Hell is murky. Fie, my lord, fie, a soldier and afeard? What need we fear who knows it when none can call our power to account? Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?
The famous quote from Shakespeare McBeth was the inspiration for this painting. I wanted to try and capture her descent into madness shown visually by the lack of blood on her hands but the colour of blood surrounding her, and fading to black. All her world has become bloody guilt there is nothing else left.

Lady McBeths eyes showing her anger and madness
her hands are clean but her conscience is filthy
red and black there is no light no world beyond her guilt
