Art: Surf on Rocks by Artist Naquaiya
For this painting, I used a spray bottle, squirrel brush to apply concentrated color, toothbrush, and palette knife. The watercolor is sepia which is a wonderful color and very versatile as well as permanet.
When the color was still wet, I moved it around with the palette knife--pushing it here and there so some areas would be richer. A touch of the brush tip to flick the birds in the sky and the scrape of a toothbrush with dark color indicates crashing waves.
I use the palette knife often in watercolor, as it gives an effect like no other tool. My 6"x12" pad is filling up with these sepia studies and it's really fun.
