She now lives in Apeldoorn for almost 6 years together with her husband Coen de Moor and their cat 'Chip the Cat'.
In 1981 she started to study 'illustration' at the Willem de Kooning
Academy in Rotterdam. After graduation in 2002 she continued her studies
with a follow-up course for 'Teacher in Visual Arts & Design' 1st
degree. In 2004 she succesfully completed this study as well and works
as a freelancer under the name of 'Bosplaatjes'.
'Bosplaatjes' could be translated to 'Pictures from the forest', because Miriam's last name 'Bos', is the Dutch word for 'forest'. :)
The day after receiving her second certificate, Miriam moved to the
USA where she lived for six months while working on a project for the Kidspace museum in Pasadena.
She was hired by the California based company MAD systems
to illustrate, animate and build 3D props for interactive games like
Beemazed, Bugsy’s Diner, Bugs inn & the Dark room (De Digging Deeper
Gallery).
After this great experience, Miriam returned to the Netherlands and concentrated on her illustration career.
Miriam is now working for different clients and publishers including
Uitgeverij Zwijsen, uitgeverij Averbode, Noordhoff Uitgevers and
In addition she sometimes does editorial work for Dutch magazines like TKMST, Bobo and Fancy.
In response to several requests Miriam has opened a shop where she
successfully sells her post cards, posters and other paperware.
Miriam's work is characterized by its cheerful scenes and use of bright colours.
