Art: She rides in Santa Fe by Artist Mary Ogle
Share this wild ride on heaving horseback through deep rust colored deserts under shining moonlit skies.

"She rides" has been haunting my head and heart ever since I came back from a recent trip to Santa Fe. There was something magical about the orange light and rust covered rock formations surrounding the city. As I strolled up Canyon road wandering from gallery to gallery I felt surrounded by images - art was everywhere! It was like the city breathed with an artist's soul.

I was trained as an oil painter but for the last few years I've chosen to work digitally. My eyesight isn't the greatest (I'm blind in one eye) so it was getting difficult for me to see detail in my paintings. I switched to the computer so I could zoom in and out. Little did I know what a wild journey this new medium would take me on. It's been so inspiring! I feel like I'm on the edge of a vast new frontier - and there are so many mysterious valleys, vast plains and far reaching mountains to explore.

"She rides" was first drawn with a mouse in CorelDraw. The drawing was then imported into photoshop for the final painting. I usually work in a whole lot of layers - one texture and brushstroke building upon another to create a richness and depth of color.

In case you're wondering about the seahorse on the back of her shirt, I'm not sure how he slipped in. But he seemed to belong there. I've heard that most of our deserts were once under deep water.
