Art: Edge Series No10 by Artist Martin Devine
This work is one of my Edge Series which are to be exhibited at the Pink Gallery in Scotland. This one is also entered into the abstract expressionist EBSQ show.

The media is acrylic and sprays, the brushstrokes of the white acrylic being overlayed with red spray paints.

I have painted in acrylic and oils ... abstracts, landscapes and nudes ... before, but this series is much more free, energetic (my deep breathing with the spray mask on can be heard for miles around !).

I think I started to paint these after studying da Vinci, reading and looking at whirlpools, vortex, spirals, and so on, but to be honest I am not sure, this may have been after.

Either way, its unimportant, Its really excercise with paint. Splashes abound, marks remain, acrylic is moved when wet and in parts partially lifted when dry, spray paint is applied and lifted in places, a white primed canvas border is almost kept free of paint, but not totally, some paint expressing itself beyond the edge.
