Since ancient times Amulets are worn because it is believed that the wearer will gain magical powers or be protected from ill fortune. Many used small bag necklaces to carry their amulets at all times. These tiny "vessels" did not only serve a spiritual purpose, but also presented themselves as beautiful pieces of jewelry. Taught by my talented Sister-in-law, this amulet bag was my first attempt to catch the beauty and wonderful meaning of this ancient tradition. I created it from seed beads, adding a simple design and plenty of dazzling glass bead fringes. After completion, I filled it with a precious rock and gifted it to my wonderful sister with all the good wishes for a safe and happy life. Isn't it amazing how very old traditions and believes are passed on - sometimes just altered a little to suit the present ?!
