Laura Gemme Triplett

Artist's Profile

About the Artist

Laura Triplett is a contemporary artist creating works best described as expressionistic.  She has been creating art of one form or another since she can remember.  During her early school days, she boasted a 'trash collection' (toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, oatmeal cartons...anything that could be re-purposed for art.)  That trend continues with her more recent collages as she re-uses magazines, books, and various discarded materials to create each work of art.

Pet collages are her latest endeavors.  In addition to the human part of her family, she lives with four furry rescued animals (two cats and two chihuahuas), and their amazing personalities have become muses for her portraits.  She is captivated by dogs, cats, chickens, horses, reptiles, and just about any pet you can imagine.  No type of pet is out of bounds:-)  Capturing the nuances of a treasured pet's personality in a custom collage is challenging and yet deeply rewarding.  The results are whimsical, creative, and stylish pieces of art.

Her greatest artistic love is drawing and painting figurative nudes, or incorporating those figures into mixed media collages, most often with an expressionistic slant.

Artistic influences include Vincent Van Gogh, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Edgar Degas, Pablo Picasso (especially earliest drawings), Claude Monet, Jackson Pollock, Edouard Manet, and Leonardo da Vinci.

Mainly self-taught, studies include:

Boca Raton Museum School of Art: 2001 - 2003 (Boca Raton, FL), studied figure painting and drawing with Hunter Howell

The Art League School, Torpedo Factory: 1997 (Old Town Alexandria, VA), studied figure drawing
