I am a Seattle based artist currently working towards a graduate degree in interdisciplinary art. I hold a BFA in fine art from the Cornish College of the Arts. Currently I am also employed by the Frye Art Museum as a digital asset manager and curatorial intern.
My work deals with a pointed interest in the cultural circumstances in which we find ourselves. There is humor and pleasure associated with the handling of consumer artifacts for me, and I often find myself nostalgic for that which I have never experienced. Fresh artworks created from a careful examination and subsequent reconstruction of that which is considered mundane or throwaway can prick the memory and resonate as part of a larger shared cultural experience.
Combining disparate ideas and imagery can generate new connotations as well as spur memory. The cobbling together of purloined inspirations demonstrates a limitless possibility for generating fractured and ironic visual messages. In my work the elements of meaning are never static; they continually shift according to context. I isolate moments from advertising and popular media and elevate them through an arduous exploration via painting and video. This serves to generate a completely new set of meanings, cultural associations, and desires.
