This mysterious stairway is a photograph I took on a trip to Europe in the 1960's... I have digitally enhanced the colors and transfered the photo to fabric as a background for two "flat fabric dolls" who are interchangeable on the quilt with velcro tabs to hold them in place. The piece was inspired by a class in creating paper-doll-like figures for quilts.... I made these clothes from patterns I designed and drew, then cut to fit flat. The Gypsies seemed like appropriate figures for this intrigueing scenic... the next pictures shows two more done in a different technique, where the clothes are dimensional and simply shaped to the doll figures and sewn onto them.
