This portrait of Brunhilde, the Valkyrie, was painted in association with the Los Angeles presentation of Wagner's Ring Cycle. The title "Defiance of Brunhilde" comes from the storyline in which Brunhilde saves Siegfried rather than obeying her father Wotan's commands. Wotan = Odin, the god of Norse mythology.
