This piece of art appeared as Art of the Day on 4/8/2016

Art: Ofrenda (Altar) by Artist Karen Winters
This is a Mexican graveyard scene decorated for day of the dead - as it is practiced in Mexico. Candles in glass, burning tapers, marigold flowers, gated cemetery vaults, and tombs with crosses are all included as motifs that represent the annual period of mourning and remembrance. The figure is reflecting upon her own memories.

The title "Ofrenda" means altar - it is the Spanish word for altars built to honor the dead during Day of the Dead celebrations. Ofrenda definition

This painting appeared in a national watercolor show held at the Brand Library in Glendale, CA. It is watercolor on Arches paper.
