Jaye Owens

Artist's Profile

I am a lifelong artistic dabbler who finally found my artistic identity at the age of 22. At the time I was in my fourth year of architecture school at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. While I'm no longer using my architecture degree in a traditional sense, my love of the built form and the urban environment has been one of several prevalent themes in my work.

Most of my work is a blend of mosaic and collage. Small squares of glossy, high-color paper that would otherwise end up in my recycle bin are applied to surfaces with decoupage medium and varnished to seal the finished product. In a way, I use printed magazine paper like a painter uses paint.

My artworks have found their way into private collections all over the country, as well as the Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Events in my life caused me to take a hiatus from this particular type of creation for over a decade. During that time I created a series of coloring books and a tarot deck under the name of Bridget Owens in conjunction with more spiritual pursuits including alchemy and chaos magic. However I have recently felt the call to come back to my artistic roots and begin making paper mosaics again.
