This was a commission piece. I chose the reference photo out of over a 100 selections from the client's album. I love sleeping paintings so I was naturally drawn to the particular photo. While I was painting it, it struck me just how it looks like a modern day Madonna and Child and if you look closely, you might even see their halos!
