When I saw Amie Gillingham's photo posted on the message boards, I immediately saw an Impressionist art piece! It nagged at me for weeks, maybe months, until I finally gave in to the creative urge. I have been playing with Cassatt's loose pastel renderings but the choppy, chalky texture reminded me of Monet too. I had never used such bold color combinations of bright yellows, cad. reds and greens together but the desire to capture this vision was stronger than the need to avoid the particular palette typically used by artists in this era.
Plus there was Amie, the spine and muse of our organization and she's beaming with pride that we made the magazine! As if she was showing off the first trophy of the family. It was a bright day, a bright event and therefore I celebrated it with a bright rendition Impressionist style.
Find below are fine examples of Impressionist art by Mary Cassatt, Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet.
