Sally & Mary Shop til they Drop!
Well, Sally & Mary are once again up to no good at the Shopping Mall! You can usually spot them in the aisles at Neiman Marcus, Ann Taylor or Saks 5th Avenue. Yes sir, these two can "smell" a sale from 50 miles away! They max out their credit cards on a regular basis, and today's no exception. They never wear the same outfit twice, and are considered the absolute height of sophistication and elegance in their fashion choices.
Today, they must be shopping for Manolo Blahnik or Jimmy Choo shoes since they (obviously) already have this season's "must-have" item: glitzy, glamorous and outrageously expensive (!) designer jeweled handbags. Their one-of-a-kind handmade beaded purses certainly have timeless appeal and pizazz.. I think Sally even has some genuine sparkling ruby & diamond studs on her purse handles & Mary's got some sapphires!
They refer to their frequent shopping excursions as "acquisition therapy", but that's the "polite" term for what it is; we all know it by it's more common name: "shopping addiction". These ladies are true "shop-a-holics" and their motto is: "accessorize, accessorize, accessorize"! Oh, and by the way, did you notice their funky-chunky necklaces? I hear they were custom-made by a jewelry artist on EBSQ! ;)
They had such a good time while they were out shopping at the Mall, that they even decided to have their portraits painted! Sally's favorite color is lime green so the portrait artist made that the background that color. Sally was quite pleased, but as usual, Mary thought she looked "fat".
This is a mixed media piece on gallery wrapped stretched canvas with a lime green/yellow background, and some black dripped paint (for the figures) and also some rhinestones, and 3D paint for the beaded handbags and necklaces. The sides are painted black so it's ready to hang.
This piece was created specifically for the EBSQ "2005 Ripped-Off" show, and was inspired by Mary Ann Wakeley's wonderfully whimsical "Untitled 2005" wire sculptures, which I show here as well. Thanks so much for the inspiration, Mary Ann, you have a wonderful & unique vision!
