This is the second wine bottle I've done in a colorful way.... Tune in, turn on, drop out..... The psychedelic colors are so pretty and vibrant here. So, what's the concoction inside --is it Love Potion #9???
I am entering this piece into the "Vessel" show, because I feel it fits in with the theme definition of a container that can be used as a piece of art that is pretty and fun to gaze upon. It brightens up a shelf, end table or coffee table with a jolt of bright color.
Because of the 3D nature of this piece, it's almost sculptural. I chose an old empty wine bottle as the support here, and acrylic paint as the media, with some added touches of special "3-D" paint - (the polka dots, and stripes are raised from the bottle's surface) because I thought a wine bottle has such nice, sleek curved lines, and would look particularly striking with abstract shapes and colors all over it.
To create it, I first covered the entire bottle with white gesso, and then applied the acrylic paint. This way the colors are opaque.
I painted the design to look different from all angles, which means you can simply turn the bottle 1/4 way around, and it will look entirely different (see pics here).... Hope you like it.
