Stella is the lovely rescue greyhound of one of my favorite EBSQers, Tracey Allen Greene. (Check out Tracey's animal portraits...fabby!)
Is there any dog more elegant than the greyhound, with their heroic proportions? Small head, long legs, deep chest? And so utterly Deco! I decided to just play with this piece, putting together a non-traditional wall hanging, using the techniques used in a recent public commission.
The glass for Stella was cut with a diamond band saw then painted with vitreous enamels. In the meantime, I constructed the background fan shape of black, iridized gray and white streaky glass, with dichroic and stringer accents. The background was fused, then Stella's name painted on the fan. Stella was placed carefully on the fan then tack fused to create a dimensional piece.
Finally, I constructed a "V" shaped frame to enhance the shape of the piece out of wide zinc channel.
