Art: Poppies Diptych by Artist Dawn Lee Thompson
Nude figures, front and back, seem to glowingly emerge from a rich an varied background. These pieces were constructed using several glass working techniques. The drapery is cobalt fusing glass with decorative elements tack fused to the surface for interest and dimension. The large bright red poppies are ruby cathedral glass traditionally painted with vitreous paints then kiln fired to fuse with the glass. The figures were underpainted then airbrushed to create the soft chiaroscuro effect against the hard edges. Rich varied background glass sets it all off. The pieces are then wrapped in foil and soldered together to create dramatic light catching panels.
