Artist's Profile

Nature has always been a major source of inspiration in my life from being raised on a farm my first eight years to a small town nestled in the foothills of the Rockies. The wonder of the farm gave me the  security and freedom to safety explore. Once our family moved to Hinton, some of that safety was lost and I no longer had that freedom even though the area had so much to offer. It was then that I turned to my art to satisfy that desire.

Nature is the main source of my inspiration, using a multitude of sources I encounter. Sometimes, I start from an image that captures my attention - whether it is an animal skull, rock formations, a piece of driftwood or pictures from inside caves I have visited. From there I focus on one particular area, sometimes zooming in so much that the original image is no longer recognizable which lets the image transform into its own entity on the canvas. Sometimes this process creates a foreign, dreamlike landscape and other times a deep, interior cavern to explore. Some images only invite the mind to enter, other images require the body to walk around and explore.

I find many different images come alive in these enclosed landscapes and caverns. Some that I see initially in the original image and others that appear by chance through the application of paint and brush stroke.  I would like to invite the viewer to explore and see what images come to life in their eyes.

Other times, my muse is more evident in the finished work.  These works offer more color than the above mentioned works, but I am  simply expressing what I see and feel with the image. I hope the images evoke a memory or feeling for the viewer.
